This application is designed to assist users in determining their location in relation to the various areas depicted on the map. The mapped regions consist of private oyster ground leases, oyster ground applications, fixed fishing equipment locations, public clamming grounds, and the blue crab sanctuary.
The accuracy of your reported location on the map may vary due to multiple factors, but it is generally expected to pinpoint your position within 50 feet of your actual location (for GPS-enabled devices). The app is functional even without a cellular or wireless connection. When your device is connected to a network, the application updates its map data every five days to ensure relatively current maps are accessible offline. If your phone has an active network connection, the app will utilize the most up-to-date map data available.
Similar to all Commission GIS data, it is necessary to acknowledge the standard disclaimer: the GIS data provided is not guaranteed to be entirely accurate and complete at all times. Users are responsible for complying with all regulations while using this app for harvesting and navigation purposes. Some crucial areas such as navigable channels, restricted buffer zones, or condemnation zones might not be visible on the displayed map. Although this data is intended for regulatory and permitting uses, users should verify with Marine Resources Commission and/or VDH Division of Shellfish Sanitation personnel before making decisions based on this information, especially regarding regulatory and permitting processes or legal actions.
It should be noted that interpreting data pins to access feature attribute data might be challenging for certain features. For more specific information related to the GIS layers presented by this app, users are encouraged to utilize the Web-based map in the app's Online Resources section or access the VMRC Chesapeake Bay map (https://webapps.mrc.virginia.gov/public/maps/chesapeakebay_map.php).
